9 Things You Should Do And Not Do Before Going To Bed At Night

Having a nice sleep is of extreme importance our overall health. It is the time when our body regenerates, and our brain has the time to rest.

There are some do's and don't's of sleep we should know. Not having sufficient sleep predisposes us to different diseases such as high blood pressure, heart conditions, etc.  So, in order to get our body ready to fight against any problem, we need to have healthy habits of sleeping.

1. Sleep at the Same Time Every Night

Going to bed at different times of the day will confuse your brain. Even on the weekend you should practice going to sleep at the same time.

While we are sleeping, our body releases hormones which are important for purifying the liver, building the muscles, regeneration of the tissues, normalizing the blood sugar, breaking down the fat stores.

2. Avoid Drinking Water

Try not to drink a lot of water before bed because when you are about to fall asleep, you will need to go to the toilet. As a result, you may get headaches because of interrupted sleeping.

3. Do Not Eat Two Hours Before Bed

You should eat at least two hours before bed because the food digestion may cause you trouble in sleeping. Also, you may get a bloated stomach or stomach pains.

4. Refrain from Using Gadgets

You should not use your phone, laptop or watch TV at least an hour before bed. If you do so, the lights, the sounds, the notifications will keep your brain awake.

5. Do Not Read Books

Of course, you should read books, but not before bed. If the content is exciting, you would want to read more and more even get to the end. So, the result is a sleepless night.

6. Drink Coffee at Least 4 Hours Before Sleep if you are the coffee type

Coffee contains caffeine which boosts your metabolism and keeps you awake. So, you should not drink it before bed.

7. Magnesium

According to Dr. Cole, magnesium gets you a better sleep, relaxes the muscles and calms you down. You should get it before bed if you have trouble in falling asleep.

8. Do a little special sitting exercise (yoga)

If you have a job that needs a lot of sitting, you need to practice some yoga because it will help you relax. If you feel tension or pain in your body, yoga will help you ease the aches and get a better sleep.

9. Do Your Own Routines

If you want to get a better sleep, take a shower, clean your face, brush your teeth and make sure to lie in a clean bed. Also, it is good to keep a blanket close to your bed, so if you feel cold, you just grab it.
